The Faculty of Natural Sciences is one of the three faculties at MUT and is made up of eight departments in the various disciplines of the natural sciences. The faculty is located on a separate campus alongside the MUT main campus. The faculty is a progressive and growing one that offers qualifications that are career oriented in the fields of;

The faculty is a pioneer in the fields of Nature Conservation and Environmental. It was the first, amongst other Universities of Technology, to offer the Advanced Diploma in Nature Conservation and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health. From 2017 the faculty will offer a Master’s programme in Nature Conservation, a first for a University of Technology in South Africa.
The faculty is home to a growing number of academics who are engaged in research and innovations. Its key features are the science laboratories that are fitted with the latest versions of laboratory equipment that are key in the delivery of relevant teaching and learning programmes.
With a steadily growing number of PhD qualified lecturing staff, the faculty is demonstrating its leadership role by being in the forefront of research in the University, as borne out by the research output. The faculty has developed interventions and partnerships that have helped grow the number of students enrolled in various diploma programmes and improved the quality and competiveness of its students. The faculty also boasts the largest number of academics that won the Teaching Excellence Awards in 2016.
