Congratulations! You have done MUT proud. This is how the ‘mother’ of the University’s research, Dr Anette Mienie, Director: Research Directorate, reacted to news that Dr Papy Numbi, a lecturer in the Department of the Electrical Engineering has been invited by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to serve on the Engineering Standing Panel.
Through Dr James Meiring and Rendani Ladzani, Directors: Reviews and Evaluation, the NRF said it identified Dr Numbi as a knowledge resource/expert in the discipline and invited him to serve on the Engineering Standing Panel for a period of three to four years from 2019/2020 – 2022/2023. This Panel will evaluate applications by established researchers for Research Chairs, Competitive funding for Rated and Unrated Researchers, Communities of Practice, Centres of Excellence, African Origins Programs, Blue Skies, National Equipment Program and other related funding instruments.
Accepting the invitation, Dr Numbi said he was excited to be part of the Engineering Standing Panel. “Being invited by NRF for this position means that my research expertise has been widely recognised. I want to acknowledge the MUT Research office for the support in achieving this. Such an appointment means a lot for an academic. Academics have to equally excel in teaching, research and community engagement. I am one of those who believe that the three should work hand-in-hand,” said Dr Numbi.
