Electrical and Civil Engineering get accreditation from ECSA

The Departments of Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering have been granted accreditation to run their programmes until 2021. This is the outcome of the inspection that took place at MUT from 3-4 May 2018 by the accrediting body, the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). ECSA visited the departments to check if the deficiencies and concerns found in May 2017 had been addressed.

The Department of Civil Engineering has secured accreditation until May 2019; it has to sort out three minor gaps to obtain full accreditation until 2021.Its head, Jan van der Westhuizen said: “The three minor gaps were not reflecting any deficiency on the side of the Department; they were instigated by the student protests and cancellation of classes during the first term of 2018.” Jan added that the minor issues would be resolved and would be sent to ECSA to obtain full accreditation.
