With food prices going up, South Africans would do well with a little help from a friend. The South African Sugar Association (SASA), South African Sugar Research Institute, and KwaShukela Training centre and Cane Testing Services were lucky; they received budget training from the Community Extension third year students and graduates on 23 July 2018 at SASA, Mount Edgecombe.  Xoli Mkhize, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Community Extension, said the increase in VAT resulted in change in food prices. Our students got a chance to demonstrate how the situation could be dealt with.”  The project involved themes like understanding food labels and South African products, planning healthy meals on restricted budget, and the role of food safety and hygiene.
