The relationship between MUT and the Gift of the Givers, a charity organisation, is growing from strength to strength. On 12 May 2022, Muhammad Sooliman, a son of the organisation’s founder, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, visited the University, to check on what the University still need. Mohammad is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organisation. The Gift of the Givers brought tons of food items for students and staff that were adversely affected by the floods in KwaZulu-Natal in March. This time Muhammad was shown and informed of laboratory equipment that was affected by the recent floods. The laboratory’s computers and floor got damaged by water that came through the wall. The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Babatunde Bakare, told Muhammad that he was going to consult his staff about further damages in his faculty, and give him a full report. There is a possibility that the organisation will do more projects with the University. Some of those projects might involve the Umlazi community.
