The EThekwini Municiapality’s Strategic Planning Unit, together with GoDigital SA Foundation, allied to MUT’s top alumnus, Sandile Mahlaba, Microsoft KZN and Mpumalanga executive; and MarComms facilitated a BRICS visit to MUT last Friday, the 25th of August. The purpose of the visit was to understand the institution’s vision, curriculum, technical and partnership opportunities. The visit included Dr LIU ZHENYING – President of BRICS Academy of Skills Development and Technology Innovation, Dr HE YONG – Executive Dean of Beijing Education Technology, Institute of Enterprise-College-Research, ZHU XIUQING – Project Manager of International Department of BRICS Academy of Skills Development and HE WEI – Project Manager of International Department of BRICS Academy of Skills Development. Professor Babatunde Bakare was on site to welcome the delegation and with support from his laboratory technicians Steven Gumede, and Khaya Shabangu, as well as head of Mechanical Engineering department, Dr Jean Mukuna. All of them provided their great insights about the laboratory equipment. One of the notable comments from Dr LIU ZHENYING was that they would be able to teach MUT staff how to manufacture their own laboratory equipment instead of importing them. The delegation spent more than two hours moving from one laboratory to the next; obviously quite impressed with the knowledge displayed by the engineering team. Professor Marcus Ramogale was excited about the visit and has encouraged MarComms and the dean to follow up on this.
