After two years without face-to-face graduation because of the COVID-19 restrictions, Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has something special planned for its graduands during the 2022 graduation from 8 to 13 August 2022 at its iconic Seme Hall. The University will unveil its brand new academic gowns, neckbands, and mortarboards.

The new graduation attire was ushered in by the University’s new Corporate Identity, which was approved by the University Council in 2019.

This week, the Department of Marketing and Communication at MUT sent out the first teasers to give students a glimpse of the new attire on social media.

Mbali Mkhize, Senior Director: Marketing and Communication at MUT, said the new graduation attire was a result of consultations with various stakeholders at the University.

She added that it was humbling to see such positive responses from end-users, students.

“The feedback from staff, students, and the alumni community have been overwhelming,” said Mkhize. “Our students waited for two years for face-to-face graduation; the new attire makes this year’s graduation extra special.”

The new academic attire has been welcomed by thousands of people, as it was shown by responses on social media posts. Academic staff have also joined the queue to get a glimpse of the new attire at MarComms.
