2484 to be capped at MUT’s virtual graduation
A total of 2484 graduands will be capped at this year’s Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) virtual graduation. This graduation will also include the capping of three Master’s students along with other 372 post-diploma graduands.
This year’s graduation which usually takes place virtually can be accessed through www.mut.ac.za/virtualgraduation on 27 June. In a communication to graduands, MUT Registrar, Mike Naidoo informed graduands that the University had opted for a virtual graduation to enable students to receive their qualifications.
“Under normal circumstances you would have graduated in person at the University but given the challenges the country is facing right now we are affording you an opportunity to a virtual graduation ceremony due to the social distancing requirements. For you to receive your graduation certificate the Chancellor needs to announce as follows: ‘I declare that the candidates whose names appear on the programme have complied with the requirements for the award of the Diplomas and Degrees’,” said Naidoo.
The ceremony will start with constituting the congregation and introductory remarks by MUT Chancellor, Lindiwe Sisulu (MP), who was the first to send in her recorded message. Sisulu’s introduction will be followed by an address by the Acting Vice-Chancellor & Principal, Professor Marcus Ramogale. The conferral of qualifications will follow immediately after Professor Ramogale’s address; while Sandile Dlamini, President of Convocation, addresses graduands after the conferral of qualifications. Sisulu will then dissolve the congregation. As if to give graduands a send-off they will remember, the last dance will follow after convocation president’s address.
The University will make arrangements for students to receive their qualifications and/or academic record after the virtual graduation.
“Immediately after the virtual graduation ceremony, certificates and the academic records will be posted to graduates who are in good financial standing with the University. Nonetheless, academic records will be posted to all graduates,” said Naidoo.
