Teaching and Learning Development Centre

The TLDC was launched in November 2012. The Centre comprises three units, each led by a Deputy Director who also acts as a Senior Researcher in the Teaching and Professional Development Unit (TPDU). The TPDU is responsible for fostering the development and professionalization of teaching within the institution as well as capacitating academic staff by providing professional services in areas such as curriculum development, e-learning, peer assisted learning and integration of technology in teaching. The Academic Literacy and Language Unit (ALLU) and the Mathematics and Science Education Unit (MSEU) focus on the pedagogical needs of students by providing academic development in basic areas that are essential for academic success. The ALLU provides remedial interventions by concentrating on the development of critical skills in reading, writing, listening and oral communication. This Unit is also responsible for academic literacy skills critical for student academic success. The mandate of the MSEU is to foster the cusses of students by providing them with academic support in areas such as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. In these two units, peer assisted learning will be employed to deepen the pedagogical interventions of academic staff. All units will work closely with academic departments
