Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) will be recognised as a source of research expertise.

Mission

To produce credible research by supporting research and development activities, enhancing the quality and quantity of appropriate skilled people and thus become a part of the problem solving mechanism for our region and our country.

Strategic Plan

MUT strategic plan as well as the national priorities serves as the basis of future directives in research and development at MUT. Additionally, the objectives as outlined in the CTP document titled “ Technikon’s strategy for innovation and technology transfer “ were also included in the strategic plan.

The objectives of this plan are as follows:

• To be the leader in a small number of research areas of national importance for South-Africa.
• To enhance research by supporting capacity building projects. Capacity building projects are aimed at promoting the qualifications of staff members.
• To optimise research output.
• To increase National and International collaboration.
• To encourage the commercialisation of products and links with industry.
• To optimise administrative facilitation for all researchers

Future development should build on our strengths in those academic disciplines which provide innovative responses to critical needs and which will make cost effective use of University resources.
